MR. & MISS AUTISM KENYA

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects thousands of children and adults in Kenya, manifesting in challenges with communication, socializing, and behaviour. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness about Autism leads to stigmatization, misdiagnosis, and, in many cases, exploitation of those affected.

Since 2017, Ready Aiders Foundation has partnered with Step Up 4 Autism to host the Mr. and Miss Autism Kenya, an annual event held every April at Sports View Hotel, Kasarani to mark World Autism Awareness Month. The pageant is a groundbreaking platform that brings together individuals with and without Autism, using the power of inclusion to raise awareness and acceptance of this neurodevelopmental disorder.

The event crowns Mr. and Miss Autism Kenya – Autistic, recognizing the strengths, aspirations, and challenges faced by those living with Autism. Additionally, the title of Autism Ambassador Kenya is awarded to a neurotypical individual (not Autistic) to symbolize the support and acceptance that society should provide to people with Autism and other developmental disorders. By involving both neurodivergent and neurotypical individuals, we highlight the importance of inclusion, awareness, and understanding.

Winners from the event take on community projects and are involved in awareness campaigns throughout the year. Their work has made strides in educating the public about Autism and fostering acceptance. All funds raised through the event go directly to support Autism awareness campaigns across the country.
